How did it all start and what does Krill mean?
It all began in a kitchen in Garðabær when hosting a dinner party.
A homemade recipe for a Scandinavian entrée called Toast Skagen, which included sustainable hand-peeled shrimp from Sweden, became the big hit of the party. The weeks following, family and friends kept asking when they could buy it in stores?
With an obsession, admittedly, and with a pure love of Swedish hand-peeled shrimp, the idea of Krill was born. When working on the business idea itself, we decided that we would only work with sustainable producers so that we would do our part in protecting the environment.
The name "Krill" comes from the Norwegian word krill, meaning "small fish“. It’s a shrimp, and it’s the most important food source for many larger fish species.
